Derealization Series 2

This body of work is an investigation of perception and reality. Focusing on the sensation of derealization born out of trauma, these paintings explore an unsteady agreement between what is real and what is a manifestation of anxiety, fear and confusion. In this work, spacial relationships are unfamiliar, the perspective is misleading, lines and edges are both gestural and precise, the color is either saturated and intense, or neutralized and calm. These elements work together to create a narrative that’s a reflection of the experiences of isolation, loss and uncertainty, while also attempting to embrace ownership of personal awareness.
